Court slams N8m fine on PDP, dismisses case against Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy

The appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party challenging the candidacy of Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his running mate, Olayide Adelami in the Ondo governorship election has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

The court in its judgement on Tuesday, dismissed an appeal by the PDP and its candidate Agboola Ajayi which challenged the competence of Aiyedatiwa and his running mate in the state election.

Led Justice Mohammed Garba, the five-member of panel ruled that the appeal was without merit and that the appellants lacked the locus standi to query Adelami’s nomination as a running mate for the All Progressives Congress candidate.

It also slammed a fine of N8 million against the PDP and its governorship candidate in favour of the four respondents – Adelami, Aitedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) – at N2 million each.
