TikTok creator Jen Scott has an alternative method to traps that works well to deter mice from your home.
She shared the pest control hack with her audience of 141.5K followers, saying: “If you have a mouse problem I’m about to make your day and it’s a very cheap solution.”
She suggested stainless steel scrubbing pads, telling followers: “Apparently mice don’t like them so it will save you money on having to hire pest control and it’s a little bit more humane because trust me you don’t want to have to wake up every single morning cleaning up dead mice from mouse traps.”
Humane way to get rid of mice
Seal entry points
Mice can enter through small cracks and openings in your home. Inspect your property for any potential entry points and seal them using caulk, steel wool, or wire mesh. This will prevent mice from entering and help keep them out.
Keep a clean environment: Mice are attracted to food sources, so maintaining a clean environment is crucial. Store food in airtight containers, clean up spills promptly, and regularly empty trash bins. By removing potential food sources, you make your home less appealing to mice.
Certain scents can repel mice. Peppermint oil, for example, is known to be effective in deterring these rodents. Soak cotton balls in peppermint oil and place them near entry points or areas where mice are frequently seen. Additionally, strong-smelling spices like cloves or cayenne pepper can also act as deterrents.
If you prefer to catch mice without harming them, consider using humane traps. These traps allow you to capture the mice alive so that you can release them outdoors away from your home. Peanut butter or chocolate can be used as bait to attract the mice into the trap.
Ultrasonic devices emit high-frequency sounds that are unpleasant to mice but inaudible to humans. These devices can be plugged into electrical outlets and help deter mice from entering your home.
If the infestation persists or becomes unmanageable, it may be necessary to seek professional assistance. Pest control professionals can provide effective and targeted solutions to eliminate mice from your home.
It’s important to remember that prevention is key when it comes to mice infestations. Regularly inspect your home for signs of mice and take proactive measures to keep them out.
