Edo Guber: Meltdown As APC Candidate Says ‘We’re Going To Provide You With Insecurity’ At Campaign

Okpebholo, who has rebuffed every attempt to face media interviews, made a gaffe while addressing the crowd during a campaign rally at Ovia North Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.

The APC has stepped up its campaign ahead of the election after running into troubles in the wake of August nationwide protests with Edo State being one of the epicentres.

The APC campaign in the state is struggling to resonate with the people in the face of nationwide hardship which led to the protest with attendance falling short of expectations.

Campaign stakeholders have decried hiring buses to bring in residents who in the end are paid for attending rallies.

Okpebholo who often speaks for a very short time to make a case why he’s a better candidate recently generated controversy when he said he “will collect N20m from the federal government if I spend N10m on federal roads” in the state.

He was roundly condemned and labelled dishonest.

However, in the video which has gone viral over the weekend, he was flanked by former governor of the state and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, saying, “We’re going to provide you with insecurity.”

Oshiomhole, who represents Edo-North in the 10th assembly tapped him on the podium to correct himself even as others who mounted the podium were left bewildered.

The gaffe has reignited a serious debate of Okpebholo’s preparedness for the task of leading Edo as he has always been mocked for what the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described as his lack of articulation and poor English.

Although the Okpebholo’s campaign council has yet to react, his supporters have said it’s a mistake anyone can make.

The election, which is scheduled for September 21, has 16 other candidates, including the ruling party in the state, PDP, with its candidate, Asue Ighodalo contesting.
