Manchester City have clawed their way to within two points of Arsenal after they held on to defeat Newcastle United 2-1 on Saturday night.
Pep Guardiola’s men came into the match keen to close the gap after the Gunners were held to a 2-2 draw at Wolves in midweek.
And they took the lead in the first half through Nico O’Reilly’s controlled effort that flew past Nick Pope.
But Newcastle were level after Lewis Hall’s shot was deflected into the net.
O’Reilly then headed in Erling Haaland’s cross as City re-established their lead, which they held onto until the end of the game.
Arsenal will have the chance to make it a five-point gap again when they play Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, although they would have played one game more than City.
