Abia State Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu has declared that the Labour Party (LP) operates an open-door policy and would welcome President Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi, or any political actor seeking to join ahead of the 2027 elections. Emetu, who chairs the LP national steering committee on membership revalidation, spoke during the handover to the Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee.
He dismissed moves by ousted national chairman Julius Abure to challenge the court ruling recognising Usman, stating: “The only court Abure can take his appeal to now is the volleyball court.” Emetu emphasised the LP is “not a cult group” and even Tinubu would be “gladly accepted” should he defect from the APC.
Key Points:
The open invitation signals Labour Party’s ambition to position itself as a broad-based national political platform.
