Ex-President Jonathan Denies Backing Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied claims that he endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general election.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that a viral story titled “Tinubu Will Win 2027 Presidential Election – Goodluck Jonathan” claimed the former leader had declared that no opposition coalition would be able to stop President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The alleged comments were said to have been made in Seoul, South Korea, where Jonathan was recently honoured with the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize.

However, Jonathan’s Media Office has firmly denied the claim, describing it as entirely false and fabricated.

The denial was made on Wednesday, by Jonathan’s Special Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze.

“The attention of the Media Office of His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2010–2015) has been drawn to a piece of false information with the above title, currently spreading on a segment of the social media,” the statement posted on social media read.

“This is fake news fabricated by agents of disinformation. At no point did Dr. Jonathan speak to any journalist on the forthcoming 2027 elections.”
