Fayose joins Peter Obi in calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu

Isaac Fayose, a social media commentator and a younger sibling of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose HAS backed the call by Peter Gregory Obi for the release of the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)...READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Fayose made the call in a video shared on his Instagram on Monday, July 1.

This comes after Obi, a former presidential candidate asked the Nigerian government to release the detained leader of the group.

The former Anambra State Governor made the call to the Tinubu-led administration while speaking to reporters in Onitsha on Saturday, June 29 according to a report by Punch newspaper.

The LP candidate said there was no reason for the continuous detention of the IPOB leader given that a Nigerian court earlier acquitted him, although that acquittal was overturned by the Supreme Court.

I don’t see any reason for his continuous detention, especially as the courts have granted him bail. The government must obey the court.

“The rule of law is an intricate asset that we must cherish and live with. I use this opportunity to plead with the federal government to ensure that all those who are in similar conditions are released and discussed,’’ he said.

“We are in a democracy, and we should not be doing things that are arbitrary and not within the law.”

Adding his voice to the call, Fayose said is believed President Bola Tinubu would extend an olive branch to Kanu upon his assumption of office. According to him, the release of Kanu will tame the violence in the southeast.

I am joining in excellency, former Governor of Anambra State that Nnamdi Kanu has been in jail for a while now and I have gotten bail from the court. Different courts and he was never released. I thought as soon as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came in, he would extend that olive branch to Nnamdi Kanu.”

I mean, if you look at other people from the north, they were given amnesty. They did worse than him and I believe if they released Nnamdi Kanu, there would be peace in the southeast Because if you see all the crimes in the southeast, they are saying it is because their leader is in detention. I believe it is a smart way to end what is going in on the Southeast.”

I am joining him [Peter Obi] to call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.”

This is not the first time Mr Obi has publicly called for the release of Mr Kanu.

The former governor, in March 2017, asked the Nigerian government to release the IPOB leader and stop the use of force in fighting Biafra agitators. Watch the Facebook video here
