Some residents of Rivers State on Tuesday, April 22, stormed the streets of Port Harcourt to protest the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy and other elected officers of the state by President Bola Tinubu.
The protesters, all dressed in black, also condemned the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers.
Moving from Aggrey Road in the Old Port Harcourt Township, the protesting Rivers residents called for the immediate reinstatement of Governor Fubara by the president.
They carried placards with various inscriptions like, “Together we stand for Governor Sim Fubara,” “We want back our Governor, we all voted for,” and “Governor Fubara is the pride of Rivers People.”
Since Fubara’s suspension and declaration of a state of emergency in the state, residents and supporters of the governor have continued to protest the action by the president.
The protesters also said that they will continue their protest every day until the duly elected governor and state officials are reinstated.
