Chelsea ‘s website lists 42 players as part of their first-team squad, but Maresca has stated it is 30 and that a number of players will need to be moved on.

“I want all 30 players but there is no space for all of them so some have to leave,” he said.

“All the players if they want to be Chelsea players we want to try and see how we can use them.”

The likes of Ian Maatsen, Omari Hutchinson and Hakim Ziyech have already been sold, while Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr have left on free transfers and several more are now expected to follow in the coming days.

Below is a list of them;

Raheem Sterling

Having been left out of Chelsea’s squad to face City, Sterling’s camp released a statement saying he was seeking “clarity” on his future.

Maresca said Sterling’s omission was a “technical decision”, but it seems his time at Stamford Bridge could be up. However, the situation is complicated by the fact that Sterling is on big wages and under contract for another three years.

Conor Gallagher

Atletico Madrid had looked set to sign Gallagher for £33million, but the move has collapsed and left the midfielder in limbo.

Gallagher has been unable to agree a new deal with Chelsea and he is currently training away from the first-team while the club attempts to sell him. Notably, Gallagher was one of three first-team players not listed as part of Chelsea’s squad on their matchday programme

Trevoh Chalobah

Having been left out of Chelsea’s pre-season squad for their trip to the US, Chalobah is another player currently training away from the first-team.

Explaining his decision to axe Chalobah, Maresca said he was “sad” to have left him out but felt he had to due to the amount of defenders Chelsea have on their books. Newcastle, Crystal Palace and West Ham have all been linked with the 25-year-old.

Ben Chilwell

Having played just 64 minutes for Chelsea in pre-season, Chilwell could also be sold after Maresca revealed the left-back does not really suit his style of play.

“With Chilly it’s quite clear, I love the way he trains, I love the way he is but the problem is that he struggles with us a little bit to find his best position,” he explained. “For some players, it’s sometimes better to leave and to go somewhere to get minutes. We will see what happens, the transfer window is open and we will see what happens.”

Romelu Lukaku

Having spent the last two seasons out on loan at Inter Milan and Roma, Chelsea are hoping to finally sell Lukaku this summer.

Lukaku was also not listed as part of Chelsea’s squad on their programme and has been heavily linked with a reunion with Antonio Conte at Napoli. That move is directly linked to Victor Osimhen’s future at the club, with Chelsea hoping to sign him from Napoli.

Armando Broja

Not only was Broja not included in the squad on Chelsea’s programme, his shirt number has also been given to new signing Pedro Neto.

It is a clear indication that Broja’s future lies away from Stamford Bridge, with Ipswich said to have made an approach for the 22-year-old. Broja has spent time on loan in the Premier League with Southampton and Fulham and it appears the time is right for him to seek a permanent move.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Having spent last season out on loan at Real Madrid, Chelsea are keen to find a permanent move for Kepa as they look to trim down their squad.

The Spaniard is one of six senior goalkeepers on Chelsea’s books and he is entering the final year of his contract. However, Kepa is on big money and his wage demands are said to be a potential sticking point for clubs interested in signing him.

Carney Chukwuemeka

Despite admitting he is a “very good player”, Maresca has suggested Chukwuemeka should leave Chelsea to “show himself that he is fit and how good he is” as he will not get regular gametime at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are open to selling the 20-year-old midfielder and the likes of Barcelona and Crystal Palace have been credited with an interest in his services. However, reports have claimed that Chelsea may be forced to lower their asking price.
