Jay Allen, who appears to split his time between Seattle and Japan, shared the photo on X, formerly Twitter, from the outing.

“This country feels more dystopian every time I visit,” Jay wrote in his caption.

“Good freaking riddance.”

In the photo, shelves of baby formula were locked behind glass.

This is a measure that’s been taken by many stores to prevent theft and organized retail crime.

Target has been known to put high-value items like electronics behind locked doors.

Jay noted in the thread that it was the first time he had seen Target lock up baby formula.

Someone commented in Jay’s thread: “I tried to buy a package of briefs at Walmart and literally all adult men’s briefs were behind glass.”

In addition to Target and Walmart, CVS has also been known to lock up items.

But shoppers were shocked to learn that candy was among the items placed behind anti-theft devices.

A TikToker shared their experience, where popular candies like Sour Patch Kids and Jolly Ranchers were locked up.

Beef jerky was also unavailable for the average shopper to freely grab without assistance.

Frustrated CVS shoppers have been vocal on social media over the anti-theft measures.

“My eye drops, and nose sprays are locked up. Like f**k I’m gonna talk to a stranger to open that lock. I had to wait like 5 minutes for someone to even come get me,” one shopper wrote on X.

Another person couldn’t get their favorite products before a recent trip.

I wanted to make sure I was well stocked before leaving on my current trip and found my favorite vitamins sold out and everything else locked up,” they wrote.

Someone else forgot to purchase the item they went to CVS to buy because it was behind anti-theft protection.

I’m laying in bed and I just realized I went to CVS to buy deodorant and forgot to actually buy the damn thing. Stupid store has them locked up and keeps them up front for when ur done.

“When I went to pay I only paid for the s**t I was carrying and forgot to ask for my deodorant.”
