Good examples are the likes of Godwin Ally , Kenule Saro Wiwa , Okoi Arikpo , Emmanuel Ekpo , Alfred Diette – Spiff , Isaac Boro , Goodwin – Isama , Uke Nwachukwu , Cyril Iweze , George Kurubo and the hosts of others.
One of the most prominent of these men is Ike Omar Sanda Nwachukwu . His father is an Ovim , Isuikwuato man . His mother was a native of Katsina . He grew up in the Northern part of Nigeria and was recruited into the Nigerian Army, under the protection of Brigadier Hassan Katsina , a prince from Katsina and an Army Chief during the war.
Nwachukwu was one of the principal actors from the Nigerian side during the war.
He stated in a recent interview , “I fought in the Nigerian Civil War as a Federal Army Officer principally because I believe in Nigeria unity and oneness , that belief remains my conviction”.
He further revealed that all Nigerians regardless of ethnic group , religious or regional origin, has the right to live , work and prosper anywhere and everywhere in Nigeria.
He was later appointed as Military Governor of Imo State and also as Minister of Employment , Labour and Productivity within the time space of 1986 to 1987 among several other post . He retired successfully as a Major General .
