The horrifying discovery was made by neighbors who noticed something unusual at the Umukoro residence. Around 10 pm, they saw that the gate was open and smoke was coming from inside the house. Concerned, they went to investigate and were met with a grim scene: Mrs. Umukoro’s body was found inside the house, severely burnt and unrecognizable.
One of the witnesses, who chose to remain anonymous, described the scene as both gruesome and unsettling. He mentioned that earlier that evening, Emmanuel Umukoro had driven out of the house at high speed in his mother’s car. This strange behavior aroused suspicion among the neighbors.
According to the eyewitnesses, Emmanuel used an axe to attack his mother before setting the house on fire. The fire quickly engulfed the residence, and by the time the neighbors arrived, it was too late. They immediately reported the incident to the authorities.
Emmanuel’s suspicious departure from the house and the discovery of the fire led to a swift police response. Officers on patrol along the Sapele-Warri Road spotted Emmanuel in the car and arrested him as he tried to flee. He was taken into custody while the police began their investigation.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest but noted that the investigation is still ongoing. “The son is in police custody now but we cannot confirm his involvement until the investigation is complete,” Edafe said.
