Naija News reports that Boniface’s club, Werder Bremen, announced earlier that the Super Eagles star will be sidelined for several months after undergoing surgery for a knee injury on Saturday, dealing a major blow to his loan spell at the club.

The Bundesliga side confirmed the development in a statement, revealing that the 25-year-old forward will not feature again for the club this season.

According to Werder Bremen, the decision to operate was taken following a specialist assessment conducted on Friday.

“The surgery became necessary after an examination by the knee specialist on Friday,” the club said.

Bremen added that Boniface would be unavailable for the “next few months,” effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Reacting after the procedure, Boniface took to ?? (formerly Twitter) to confirm that the operation was successful.

“Done and dusted,” the striker wrote.

He, however, opened up emotionally about the mental toll of his injury struggles, admitting he had been masking his pain.

“I’ve been putting on a fake smile for almost a year,” Boniface added.

“God know why all this is happening.”

Naija News reports that Boniface’s latest setback adds to a troubling injury history in his short professional career.

The Nigerian striker has previously suffered two anterior cruciate ligament injuries and has also been plagued by several minor fitness issues, which have repeatedly disrupted his progress.

His persistent injury concerns have also impacted potential transfers.

Boniface was unable to complete a proposed loan move to Italian giants AC Milan during the summer after the club raised medical concerns.

He was also close to a lucrative switch to Saudi Arabia, having reportedly agreed personal terms with Al Nassr, but the move failed to materialise.

Boniface joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen and featured in 11 matches for the club before sustaining the knee injury.

Although he failed to score, the striker provided two assists during his time with Bremen.

With his season now effectively over, attention will turn to his recovery and long-term fitness as he looks to overcome yet another difficult chapter in his career..ALSO READ WHAT’S TRENDING.👉BREAKING NEWS: Kano Governor Meets Tinubu in France After Alleged Secret Talks With Kwankwaso
