Ijaw Youths Shuts Down East-West Road Over Move to Impeach Fubara [VIDEO]

Youths from the Ijaw ethnic group have blocked a section of the East-West Road in Rivers State, disrupting traffic in protest against the planned impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by the state assembly.

The East-West Road is a major highway linking key cities in the Niger Delta, including Port Harcourt, Warri, and Calabar, making it a critical route for transportation and commerce.

Tensions have been rising in Rivers State following the state lawmakers’ move to remove Governor Fubara.

The governor is currently locked in a power struggle with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

On Monday, the Rivers State House of Assembly issued a notice of gross misconduct against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, signaling the start of an impeachment process.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, an explosion occurred late Monday night along the Trans-Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area.

The incident led to a massive fire, with early claims suggesting possible sabotage, though investigations are still ongoing.
