It sounds like a cumbersome question but controversial rapper, Ruggedman, born Michael Ugochukwu Steven, seems to have an answer for it.
According to him, he is the first to personally get one – and a solid car for that matter.
He said this happened in 2024 which many may see to be so recent that they would think some other young musicians, like fuji wizards Alabi Pasuma and Saheed Osupa, must have got rides by then.
But Ruggedman insisted in a recent interview with Echo Room that he was the first, saying he did so before the likes of Tuface and PSquare.
He claimed that, in 2004, he bought a BMW for N900,000, ahead of well-known Afrobeats stars like P-Square and D’banj, who later acquired their vehicles.
Ruggedman also pointed out that during that period, other artists, particularly those signed to Kennis Music, were only provided with cars for official use, and did not personally own them.
“The only artists that had cars then were signed to Kennis Music. They didn’t own the cars. They were only given to them for official use. Tuface shared the same car with his labelmates then.”
