INEC Warns Broadcasters: 2027 Election Credibility Depends on Responsible Airwave Management

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan has warned broadcast media organisations to uphold accuracy and professionalism, stating that the credibility of the 2027 elections depends on how responsibly Nigeria’s airwaves are managed.

Speaking at the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria assembly, he said misinformation now poses a greater threat to credible polls than physical disruptions. He reminded broadcasters of the mandatory 24-hour “cooling-off period” before Election Day and warned against inciting content.
