Kaduna govt revokes institutional land sales approved by El-Rufai administration

The Kaduna State Government has officially revoked the sale of institutional houses and plots of land previously approved by the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The affected properties are located within Alhuda-Huda College, Zaria; Queen Amina College, Kaduna; and Government Commercial College, Zaria.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere.

He explained that the decision, approved last year, was taken in the public’s interest and for the common good.

“In line with its commitment to human capital development and to ensure a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning, the Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, has revoked all previous sales of institutional houses and land allocations within the affected colleges,” the statement read.

Dr. Meyere added that the government is currently taking steps to refund all monies paid by the previous allottees into state coffers.

“One of the first actions Governor Uba Sani took after his inauguration was to reduce tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions by 50% on August 21, 2023,” the SSG noted.

Dr. Meyere also disclosed that over the past two years, the government has constructed more than 2,336 new classrooms, renovated over 707 others, and provided more than 34,000 pieces of furniture for teachers and students.

Additionally, he said the state has drilled 51 boreholes and installed 918 cubicle toilets in schools across all local government areas to improve learning conditions.

“Education is not just a leveler but a ladder for upward mobility that can transform lives and improve livelihoods,” he stated.
