THE WHISTLER learnt that some occupants of two SUVs in the early hours of Thursday were kidnapped.

“We saw the vehicles,” said a driver. “One of them is a 4Runner. The other one is Rav4.

“The front tyres of the 4Runner were shot. It was surprising because the incident occurred close to a police checkpoint.

“However, the operatives were not on duty when the kidnapping took place,” the driver said in condition of anonymity.

Early Friday morning witnessed low vehicular movement as people were afraid to use the road, another driver said.

One of the police operatives, near a rural route to Agu Ukehe, was heard saying, “I noticed that people were afraid to use the road early this morning. Few vehicles were seen. They must have been afraid of what happened yesterday.”

Meanwhile, security was beefed up along the route on Friday. All the checkpoints were manned by armed personnel.
