A 20-year old man, Akindele Tayo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly burgling a Redeemed Christian Church, disconnecting electricity wires used to connect light to the church and carting them away....TAP TO READ THE FULL CONTENT | TAP TO READ THE FULL CONTENT
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the Redeemed Church, Province 71, Boys town area of Ipaja, Lagos, where the church is located.
According to the Police, the suspect went into the church with some tools, disconnected the wires and went away when there was nobody in the church.
When the church management later went to the church, they discovered the the wires were stolen. They went to the Police at Ipaja Division and reported the matter.
The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the station for interrogation over his conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read: “That you, Akindele Tayo, at the Redeemed Christian church of God, Province 71 at 0500hrs at No. 204 Boys town Ipaja Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial on the 3rd day of December, 2024, did steal electric wires, property of Redeemed Church, valued N18,000,00 thereby committed an offence contrary to the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2015.”
He pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, Simeon Njue then asked the Court to give a short date for facts and sentence to enable the Court to sentence him accordingly.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos and adjourned the matter till 17th December, 2024, for facts and sentence.
