Monarch’s palace, LG secretariat burnt as protest rocks Benue

The palace of the Ter Nagi, Chief Daniel Abomtse, and the local government secretariat of Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State have been set ablaze by some angry protesters.

It was gathered that the protest rocked Naka, the headquarters of the LGA on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, over the invasion and killing of three members of State Civil Protection Guards by armed men suspected to be herdsmen.

Trouble started after the herdsmen were said to have invaded the community and killed the security operatives in Gyaruwa community in the local government

This criminal action by the suspected herdsmen sparked a protest by residents of Naka after the bodies of the deceased operatives were brought into the community on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Catherine Anene, said some members of the Force’s tactical team have been deployed to restore law and order.

Anene said, “Information has been received about an ongoing protest in Naka and the Commissioner of Police has moved this morning to the area with other tactical teams to restore law and order.”

She also assured that development on the incident will be made public from time to time.
