In a letter dated August 19, Ajaero was invited by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police for questioning over allegations related to criminal conspiracy and terrorism financing. While the Union President was directed to appear at the IRT Complex in Guzape, Abuja, on August 20, through his solicitors, Falana and Falana Chambers, he explained why he could not honor the invitation on the requested date.

“We have the instructions of Comrade Joe Ajaero to inform you that he is unable to honor your invitation on Tuesday, August 20, 2024,” Samuel Ogala, Esq., said in a responding letter, adding that Ajaero will honor the invitation on August 29.

Also, ahead of the police visit, the NLC has mobilized members to show solidarity with its President, Joe Ajaero.

“We call on all NLC affiliates and state councils to mobilize their members in Abuja and across the states to show solidarity,” Emmanuel Ugboaja, NLC General Secretary, said on Wednesday in Abuja.

“All Central Working Committee members resident in Abuja and other members are expected to assemble at the National Headquarters of the NLC by 8:00 a.m. on 29th August. This is to accompany the President to the police for the scheduled interaction,” Ugboaja added.

Ajaero’s visit to the police comes barely three weeks after the NLC headquarters in Abuja was raided by security personnel who claimed they had intel suggesting that the Union financed the recent hunger protests in the country.
