A Nigerian Army officer, Abdulkadir Musa, has allegedly ordered soldiers from Duma military base in the Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State to beat residents of Evuti community over an altercation involving his fiancée.
SaharaReporters gathered that Musa had returned home from Lagos State for the Sallah break when his supposed wife informed him about the incident.
Sources told SaharaReporters that Musa immediately rushed to the Duma military camp in Lapai, where he gathered his men. They then stormed the Evuti community, beating anyone they came across.
“A group of soldiers stormed our community, trespassed into houses and ransacked rooms with guns beating everyone for a civil matter of a soldier alleging that a particular boy is having an affair with his proposed wife,” one of the sources said.
“He came with soldiers inside an Hilux from Duma military base under Lapai LGA and went to the suspect’s house, beat everyone and arrested his mother and his brother.
“What happened today in the Evuti community needs urgent intervention. They should look into the overzealous attitude of these soldiers.”
It is also reported that the mother of an inspector with the Mokwa Local Government Police Division in Niger State who was in the community, was beaten by the soldiers.
They took her to the camp, and other injured individuals were rushed to the Lapai General Hospital for emergency treatment.
When contacted for comment, Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, simply said he “will find out.”
