The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has restated that the President Bola Tinubu-led government should dialogue with the #EndBadGovernance protests conveners instead of the clampdown by the security agencies.

The union said that it also has its own protest, which is set to demand the implementation of the minimum wage agreement, and which will proceed as scheduled if the government fails to act.

In a statement released on Friday, by the Head of Information and Public Affairs, Benson Upah, the NLC said that the ongoing national protests are separate from the current issue concerning the minimum wage.

The statement read, “We find it necessary to reiterate that on our statements of July 22nd and 23rd 2024, we had advised government to dialogue with the leaders instead of engaging in unhelpful rhetoric, as it was within their constitutional right to protest.”

“Our position on government meeting with and engaging in sincere dialogue with the leaders of this action remains unchanged. It’s the best way to go,” he added.
