He joins several other prominent Nigerians who have criticized the purchase of a new jet amid the daily struggles faced by Nigerians.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, disclosed that the President was embarking on a working visit to Paris, France, in a newly acquired Airbus A330 business jet.

The model, typically used as a twin-aisle passenger aircraft, was purchased last month for $100 million and has now been registered to the Nigerian Air Force.

Reacting, Okonkwo questioned why the federal government would make such a purchase when Nigerians are suffering.

“People are dying of hunger. There is no food, fuel, finance, or electricity, and President Tinubu is buying a presidential jet. This is the height of insensitivity,” he wrote on his Instagram page.

Peter Obi, his former principal, has also urged the federal government to inform Nigerians on how it funded the newly acquired presidential jet and the status of the old ones.

He made this known in a post on X on Tuesday, August 20, asking President Bola Tinubu’s administration to come clean to Nigerians on the transaction details.
