‘Only My Body Remains in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), My Soul Has Gone’ — Dele Momodu

Speaking on Tuesday during the “Guest of the Month” programme on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) in Ibadan, Momodu lamented that internal conflicts and sabotage have severely weakened the PDP’s effectiveness as a credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“My soul has already left the PDP; only my body remains,” he confessed.

Despite recognising the PDP’s structural strength and experience to challenge the APC in the 2027 general election, Momodu warned that persistent internal divisions and external meddling could thwart any chances of reclaiming power.

“If the PDP is united, it has everything it needs to wrest power from the APC in 2027, but there are forces, both inside and outside the party, working against this,” he said.

He accused the APC of deliberately fostering disunity within the opposition by encouraging factionalism and infiltration, describing the ruling party as “jittery” because the PDP remains its most formidable rival.

Momodu further noted that some PDP members are being used to destabilise the party from within, cautioning that without unity, winning the presidency in 2027 would be impossible.

“There is no way a divided PDP can win in 2027. Some members are actively undermining the party’s stability and progress,” he said.

Nonetheless, he maintained that the PDP adheres to due process when disciplining erring members, insisting that suspensions and expulsions are not arbitrary but follow established procedures.

Regarding the prospect of unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027, Momodu emphasised that only a strong, united coalition of like-minded political forces could mount a serious challenge.

“It will be nearly impossible to remove Tinubu without a robust and united coalition. The candidate with the best chance must come from the opposite geopolitical zone,” he added.
