The integration brings advanced AI features, including real-time web browsing, research support, content summarisation, and image generation directly into the data-efficient browser, at no additional cost to users.

This comes as the AI competition among browser makers intensifies, with global players like Google and Microsoft integrating cutting-edge AI tools into Chrome and Edge, respectively, and setting new benchmarks for intelligent browsing experiences.

“AI is rapidly becoming an integral part of the daily internet experience, and we’re seeing great interest in AI solutions among Nigerians. Bringing Aria to Opera Mini is a natural step for our most-downloaded browser,” said Jørgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera.

“We’re excited to explore how AI can further enhance the features our Nigerian users rely on every day.”

Opera Mini noted that users can now enjoy AI-powered services without additional data charges, a significant advantage in a country where data affordability remains a key concern. It highlighted that its AI assistant is optimised to consume minimal data, aligning with the preferences of 46 percent of Nigerians who said they would use AI tools only if they didn’t increase their data usage.

Powered by Opera’s proprietary Composer AI engine, Aria combines technology from Openai and Google AI to deliver relevant, conversational responses and image generation via Google’s Imagen3 model. Already available on Opera’s desktop and mobile browsers, Aria now offers a unified, chat-based AI experience across platforms.

With 47 percent of Nigerians using AI tools several times a day, and 67 percent relying on them for academic purposes, Opera’s move positions Aria as a practical and cost-effective digital assistant tailored to local needs.
