PalmPay unveils in-app AfriGO card requests

PalmPay has launched in-app requests for AfriGO cards, enabling users to apply for the national domestic payment card directly through the PalmPay mobile platform.

According to a statement made available to The PUNCH on Sunday, the integration expands access to card-based payment services by embedding the request process within a digital wallet already widely used for transfers, bill payments and everyday financial transactions.

The PUNCH reports that AfriGO is Nigeria’s national domestic card scheme, launched by the Central Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System. The scheme is designed to deepen financial inclusion, reduce transaction costs, enhance payment efficiency and support Nigeria’s transition to a digital economy.

According to the statement, the move strengthens distribution for AfriGO by combining digital convenience with physical support channels. In addition to requesting cards through the app, customers can visit PalmPay’s customer experience centres or engage any of the company’s more than 500,000 agents nationwide for guidance on completing their applications.

Commenting on the development, AfriGO Managing Director Ebehijie Momoh said the partnership aligns with the scheme’s long-term objective of building a payments ecosystem tailored to Nigeria’s domestic needs. He noted that expanding access points reduces barriers to participation and supports deeper financial inclusion.

“AfriGO represents our long-term vision for a payments ecosystem that is designed around Nigeria’s needs and realities. By making AfriGO cards available on the PalmPay app, we are removing barriers to access and ensuring that more Nigerians can participate fully in the digital economy,” he said.

Also commenting on the integration, the Managing Director of PalmPay, Chika Nwosu, said: “Many Nigerians still face challenges accessing reliable card services. By enabling AfriGO card requests directly on the PalmPay app, we are making banking smarter and more accessible while giving users the confidence to pay seamlessly across Nigeria’s payment ecosystem.”
