Peoples Democratic Party Appoints Fresh Acting National Chairman Amid Party Leadership Issues

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has appointed a new Acting National Chairman as fresh drama unfolds within the party’s leadership.

Mohammed Abdulrahman, the National Vice-Chairman (North Central), has now taken over as the party’s Acting Chairman in a sudden shake-up at the top.

The announcement came on Saturday in Abuja after a heated leadership face-off that further exposed deep cracks inside the opposition party.

Internal tensions escalated when the National Working Committee, NWC, announced the suspension of some national officers during an emergency meeting.

The suspended officials include Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and Okechukwu Osuoha. The PDP said the action was in line with its internal disciplinary rules and constitution.

However, the situation quickly flipped. A rival faction moved against the decision, claiming authority and reportedly enjoying support from powerful party figures.

Senator Anyanwu emerged from a separate briefing to declare the suspension of “the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum” and several other NWC members. He insisted that the faction’s decisions stand.

Anyanwu also revealed interim changes, stating that Abdulrahman had been directed to step in as Acting National Chairman. He added that Chinwe Nnorom, the party’s Director of Publicity, would handle official communication “until further notice.”

He noted that “the National Legal Adviser” joined the deliberation virtually from Canada and backed the resolutions taken by the faction.

This latest confrontation came barely 24 hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the party’s planned national convention scheduled for November 15, raising fresh concerns about unity in the PDP ahead of major political activities.

Saturday’s events mark another chapter in the prolonged internal conflict that has plagued the party, with competing blocs struggling for control.
