Police promise to review conduct of officers who arrested Peter Obi’s poster boy

The Nigeria Police Force has promised to review the conduct of the officers involved in the arrest of Quadri Alabi, the 2023 campaign poster boy for Peter Obi.

The plan by the Police to review the actions of its personnel connected with the case was disclosed by Inibehe Effiong, a human rights advocate and lawyer to Alabi.

Effiong in a post made on X said the Lagos State Commissioner for Police, Moshood Jimoh confirmed this at a meeting with other high-ranking officers of the command.

He wrote, “We have concluded a meeting with the Lagos State Commissioner of Polic, CP Moshood Jimoh and other high-ranking officers in the Command.”

He also said that his team – who are representing Quadri legally – were introduced to the police committee tasked with the review process.

“The CP introduced us to the committee which he has tasked with carrying out internal review of the conduct of his officers and other persons involved in Quadri’s ordeal.

“We are cooperating with this investigation because we believe that it is imperative to prevent or reduce the reoccurrence of cases like the one of Quadri Alabi.

We will give the CP the opportunity to take appropriate actions,” Effiong noted.

Recall that the police had come under fire from Nigerians following the arrest and incarceration of Alabi, a minor, at the Kirikiri correctional facility.

Alabi was arrested and incarcerated after some suspected touts framed him for not sharing funds he realised from going viral during Peter Obi’s campaign in 2023.
