President Bola Ahmed Tinubu too strong for any coalition in 2027, says Keyamo

Keyamo made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, where he dismissed ongoing coalition talks among opposition figures as “a storm in a teacup,” saying such plans lack the structure and strength to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“There is no tsunami coming. I think it’s a storm in a teacup. I respect these people, but if you look at the political history of Nigeria… I have campaigned for two presidents, so I have knowledge of the demography.

“It is impossible for you to do a coalition now to unseat the present President (Tinubu),” Keyamo said.

His comments were in response to recent statements by Labour Party chieftain Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed and other opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who have hinted at forming a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.

Keyamo maintained that even if such plans were serious, it is too late for a meaningful merger.

He cited the post-2011 efforts of President Tinubu and then-General Muhammadu Buhari to merge opposition forces into the APC—a process he noted took years of groundwork and negotiations.

“There are two different things they are talking about — a merger or an alliance. They should be very clear. If it’s a merger, forget it, because it’s too late to start a merger now,” he said.

Keyamo concluded that the APC remains firmly rooted and unshaken by any proposed opposition alliance, assuring that President Tinubu will be difficult to dislodge in 2027.
