Former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has bared his mind on the comments made by retired Supreme Court Justice, Musa Dattijo, over the level of corruption in the nation’s judicial system.
PlatinumPost reports that Dattijo had at a valedictory court session on Friday lamented the high of political interference and corruption in the judiciary.
He also frowned at the absolute powers of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, saying , “a person with absolute powers, it is said, corrupts easily and absolutely.”
Dattijo, who reportedly decided not to be among the Justices that handled the appeals from the presidential election court, also questioned the present non-representation of the South-East.
Reacting to the Dattijo’s remarks on Saturday, Odinkalu said individuals who perfected various unholy acts during the presidential election appeals at Supreme Court never expected that the retired justice will expose the ills in the apex court.
“When they were scheming over the calendar for concluding the presidential election appeals, & how to manage the triumphal aftermath, none reckoned with a the possibility that a Supreme Court Justice will arise to burst the bubble. #Dattijo is destined to become a verb, ” Odinkalu said in a post on his X handle on Saturday night.
