Pump’s Burden: MRS, a major distributor of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, has announced new, higher pump prices for Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) across Nigeria, effective June 21, 2025.
This move follows a recent 6.7 percent adjustment in the refinery’s ex-depot price to N880 per litre from N825, now placing a new burden at the pump for consumers, as reported by Vanguard.
New pump prices include Lagos at N925, South West N935, and North East N955 per litre.
The price hike by MRS directly follows Dangote Refinery’s increase in its ex-depot petrol price.
MRS stated that the new prices take effect from June 21, 2025, and encouraged public reporting of non-compliant stations.
Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) will engage Dangote Refinery and regulators to understand the nationwide distribution plan.
Pump’s Burden is now visibly heavier, directly impacting the daily lives of millions. This price adjustment reveals the ripple effect from industrial changes to the individual’s wallet. It is a felt reality where policy decisions in boardrooms translate into tangible struggles at the fuel stations.
