Rivers Assembly Blocks Governor Fubara From Premises, Presenting Budget [VIDEO]

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been prevented from presenting the 2025 budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The budget was scheduled to be laid before the State Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, on Wednesday, following a recent Supreme Court ruling that ordered the suspension of federal allocations to Rivers State until the budget is properly presented and approved.

However, upon arriving at the Assembly complex, Governor Fubara was locked out, preventing him from accessing the premises.

Speaking to journalists outside the premises, Fubara said his attempt to present the budget was in the best interest of the people of Rivers State.

He added that he had previously written to the Speaker and spoken to him over the phone before deciding to appear before the Assembly in person.

The lawmakers, who are loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, have been holding their sessions at the Legislative Quarters in Port Harcourt since December 13, 2023, after the state government demolished the Assembly Complex.
