This advice was given to the Federal Government and the military by a former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
Amachree while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme said, the soldiers would be more useful in Borno where they would fight members of the Boko Haram and all other terrorists groups ravaging state and the Northeast region of the country.
He said, “There is no serious problem going on in Rivers State where we will say let’s send all our troops there. We don’t have a large army.
“Our territorial integrity is in question right now and the reputational risk is very high. So, are we going to allow these people to continue doing what they are doing?” Amachree queried.
Also stating that since it appears that the political crisis rocking Rivers State has been addressed with the enforcement of the State of Emergency by the president, the former DSS director said more soldiers are needed in Borno than in Rivers State at the moment,
Citing the outcry by the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulium that the terrorists are gaining an upper hand in the fight against terrorism in the state, Amachree said the governor’s alarm should not be taken lightly.
He condemned the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and all other elected officers in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.
Amachree also called for a State of Emergency in Borno State without the need to necessary suspend the governor as done in Rivers State.
“We’ve done it (state of emergency in Borno) before and this time you don’t have to remove the governor because I think that Governor Zulum is doing a fantastic job; he’s one of the most serious governors in Nigeria.
“He can be there but let the military take over the other parts of operations and make sure that they clear out these bandits and terrorists,” Amachree said.
