Series of Attacks Erupted: 28 people killed as bandits attack Zamfara community

A series of attacks by bandits in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State has left 28 people including 20 miners killed.

It was gathered that the attack took place on Thursday at about 11.30 am across several communities in the LGA.

The affected communities include Gobirawa Chali, Damaga, and Lugga.

According to residents of these communities, the gunmen arrived in large numbers with guns in a sudden manner and began attacking them.

Reuters reports that a resident of Gobirawa Chali, Ismail Hassan said the attackers invaded the community and opened fire on miners.

He said about 20 of the miners were killed in that particular attack.

Isah Ibrahim, another resident said 21 bodies were recovered after the incident.

He also said that several other residents of the community were injured in the bandits’ attack.

These attacks were also confirmed by human rights organisation, Amnesty International.

The organisation in a statement issued on Friday said the attackers went from door-to-door killing residents at random.
