Southeast governor slams one-month suspension on 3 commissioners for absenteeism

Three commissioners in Ebonyi State have been suspended by the governor for their absence at the State Executive Council meeting on Monday, March 17.

Jude Okpor, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation said the affected commissioners failed to inform the appropriate authority of their inability to attend the meeting prior to the scheduled time.

Those affected include Victor Chukwu, the Commissioner for Environment; Solomon Azi, the Commissioner for Grants and Donor Agencies and Ikeuwa Omebe of the Ministry of Rural Development.

Speaking to journalists after the state’s council meeting, Okpor said the governor had earlier warned against absenteeism and nonchalant attitude to work by public servants.

He added that the governor also directed that all affected commissioners would be relieved of all the privileges attached to their various offices during the period of their suspension.
