The former Governor of Edo state, speaking in an interview on Arise Television Morning Show on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, noted that there can’t be dialogue if the organisers of the protests are faceless.
Co-host Rufai Oseni argued that the protest organisers are not faceless, mentioning some notable activists including Omoyele Sowore.
In response, Oshiomhole noted that he does not recognize any of the names on the list of organisers and described Sowore as a defeated politician still nursing the pain of his loss during the 2023 presidential election.
In defense of President Bola Tinubu, the former Governor stated that the ruling government is ensuring economic challenges are beingtackled.
He said, “I listen to all those names you mentioned and the others, I don’t know them. Which Nigerian does not know Wole Soyinka? Who didn’t know Gani Fawehinmi of blessed memory? Who doesn’t know Femi Falana?” he said.
“I know Sowore as a defeated presidential candidate. And when you’re defeated in an election, you wait for the man who won the election.
“Give him time. Sowore cannot be seen as speaking for the people because he is still nursing the pain of his defeat.
“So, that’s not the guy to speak for people in Kano, for those people who throw bombs in Maiduguri, or those people who hijack cars.”
