Daily Post reports that the incident occurred on the night of June 13, 2024, when Patrick John returned home from a drinking joint. He found his pregnant wife, Maryam, wearing a miniskirt—a piece of clothing he had previously warned her against wearing. This sight triggered a heated argument between the couple.
According to reports, the argument escalated when Patrick allegedly held Maryam by the neck. In response, Maryam struggled and cried out, attracting the attention of their neighbors. The neighbors intervened and separated the couple. However, Patrick reportedly returned later and resumed his attack on Maryam.
In an attempt to defend herself, Maryam picked up a hoe and struck Patrick on the forehead. Patrick was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Maryam has been arraigned in court on charges of culpable homicide. During her hearing at the Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola, presided over by Magistrate Musa Alhaji Adamu, Maryam pleaded guilty but claimed she acted in self-defense. The judge ordered her remand and adjourned the case to July 10, 2024.
