‘The money can be stolen by one man’, Sani ‘counters’ Obasanjo on ‘wasteful’ Lagos-Calabar coastal highway

A former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central in the Eight Senate, Shehu Sani has said that he does not believe that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a wasteful project as suggested by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Recall that the former president had described the N15.6 trillion Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway project as wasteful and corrupt.

Obasanjo also slammed the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu for spending a whooping sum of  N21 billion on a new official residence for Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Stating that both projects are misplaced priority, Obasanjo warned that the initiatives have also been created by the present administration as a conduit for embezzlement of public funds.

However, in his reaction to Obasanjo’s remarks, Sani in his usual comical character said since the former president warned that the highway project has been initiated as a conduit for embezzlement, then it cannot be described as ‘wasteful’.

He wrote on X, “I don’t think Lagos Calabar highway is wasteful, taking cognisance that such amount of money for the project can be stolen by one man, as it happened in the CBN in the past.”
