Tunde Moshood, the media aide at the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development in a statement said the two countries have agreed to explore the possibility of establishing direct flights routes between them.

Moshood said this agreement was reached during a meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, the Jamaican ambassador to Nigeria, Lincoln Downer and his consular, Andre Hibbert.

Speaking during the meeting Keyamo said a key area of focus for his guests was the issue of air travel and connectivity.

Also speaking, the ambassador expressed his appreciation for Nigeria while stating that he had a personal connection to the country.

“I have since discovered that Nigeria might be my ancestral home after all,” Downer said.

Disclosing that he has been directed by the Jamaican government to ensure an improved diplomatic engagement with Nigeria, Downer said he aims to push for review in both countries relations.

“There is no reason why we should not have a direct flight between our countries. Nigerians love Jamaica, and there is a rising demand for Jamaican spices in Nigeria,” Downer added.

Reacting to Downer’s submission, the minister assured that a committee would be set up immediately to expedite the process of establishing direct flight routes between the two countries.

“I am delighted to start the BASA arrangements. To ensure a swift resolution, we will set up a committee to expedite the process,” Keyamo said.

He also pledged to visit the country should the need arise as an affirmation to his willingness to personally finalise and sign the BASA agreement.
