The accident occurred early Sunday morningwith the aircraft colliding with a wall at the Airport and exploding after landing on its belly at the Muan International Airport in Muan County, South Korea.
When it veered off the runway, the Jeju Air flight was coming from Bangkok and was trying to land at Muan International Airport.
Both local fire officials and aviation experts say some sort of landing gear malfunction was likely.
Two people have been pulled from the wreckage, both crew members. However rescuers have warned that they do not expect to find many more survivors from the inferno.
The Jeju Air jetliner was carrying 175 passengers and six crew when it crash-landed at the airport in Muan county. All on baord were South Korean except for two Thai nationals.
Apart from the two rescued victims, the remainder of the 181 passengers on board have been presumed dead.
“Jeju Air will spare no effort to respond to the accident.
“We are currently working to determine the exact cause and details of the situation,” an official of Jeju Air said.
