Former Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has died while receiving medical treatment at Mediclinic Medforum Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa.

His daughter, Chawama MP Hon. Tasila Lungu-Mwansa, confirmed the news in a short video statement. Family lawyer Makebi Zulu also confirmed the death, saying the family is in the process of informing close relatives.

Lungu, who led Zambia from January 26, 2015, until August 24, 2021, played a significant role in the country’s political landscape during his tenure. His presidency was marked by both major infrastructure projects and controversies surrounding governance and human rights.
