Vatican announces date for Pope Franicis’ burial

The Vatican has announced that the late leader of the Catholic community, Pope Francis will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 26.

Recall that Pope Francis passed away in the early morning of Monday, April 21, after suffering from a stroke.

The Catholic Pontiff’s death also followed his return from a five-week stay at the hospital where he was treated for double pneumonia.

According to the Vatican, his funeral is expected to take place at 10 am (0800 GMT) on Saturday at the square right in front of St Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican.

It was gathered that the Pope’s funeral date was approved by the “general congregation” of cardinals on early Tuesday morning.

During the funeral process, his body would be taken into the church and then to the Rome Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore for burial.
