‘Victor is complicated’ — Eric Chelle opens up on Osimhen’s AFCON campaign

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has described Victor Osimhen as a complicated personality while reflecting on the Galatasaray striker’s performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 48-year-old, in a recent interview with RMC Sport, opened up on some of the challenges Osimhen had to deal with during the tournament.

Chelle disclosed that the Super Eagles striker played the competition with a minor hamstring injury, which had to be carefully managed.

“After Nigeria’s quarter-final match against Algeria in Marrakesh, we travelled back to Fez before heading to Rabat to prepare for our semi-final match against Morocco just 48 hours later,” Chelle said.

“If you watched Nigeria’s game against Morocco, Akor [Adams] was very tired; he lost possession of the ball several times.

“Victor [Osimhen] is complicated because people need to know he played the AFCON injured, with a small tear in his hamstring, and it was necessary to manage it.”
