Watford FC has officially parted ways with Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract on August 30, 2024. Kalu, who joined the English Championship club from Bordeaux in January, struggled with injuries and inconsistent form throughout his tenure at Vicarage Road. His time at Watford saw him make 13 appearances across all competitions, including four in the Premier League, but he failed to register any goals or assists.

In a bid to gain more playing time, Kalu was loaned to Lausanne-Sport in the Swiss Super League for the 2023/2024 season, where he managed to make 21 appearances and contribute to five goals. Despite these efforts, both parties agreed to end his contract, making Kalu a free agent.

Kalu’s departure provides him with the opportunity to explore new options and sign with another club, even after the close of the summer transfer window. The move reflects a challenging period for the 27-year-old, who will be looking to revive his career with a fresh start elsewhere.

Watford’s decision to terminate Kalu’s contract underlines the club’s ongoing efforts to reshape its squad as it seeks to secure promotion back to the Premier League. Meanwhile, Kalu will focus on finding a new club where he can re-establish himself and fulfill his potential.
