The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has called on the Nigerian government to invest in seeking proactive solutions to challenges.
Obi said this while reacting to the devastating flooding which has claimed hundreds of lives and submerged over 3,000 homes in the Mokwa Community of Niger State.
Expressing sadness over the incident, the former Anambra State governor said such news is devastating and heartbreaking.
He also said that the scale of the destruction caused by the flooding is unimaginable, with families displaced and livelihoods destroyed.
Sympathising with the victims of the flooding, Obi said the incident is a pointer to the importance of empathy, solidarity, and swift action to support one another through grief and loss.
He further commended the governor of Niger State for standing io to the occasion and ensuring that those affected get the needle support.
“This tragic disaster is yet another urgent call for Nigeria to reassess and significantly strengthen our disaster preparedness systems. We must invest in sustainable and proactive solutions that protect lives and property, particularly in vulnerable riverine communities, as the rainy season continues,” Obi said.
