The Marca Top 100 is decided by votes from over 100 former footballers, journalists, and analysts globally.
Despite being tipped as the overwhelming favourite to be crowned the new African Footballer of the Year, Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman was ranked fourth among the best African players for the 2023/24 season.
The 27-year-old finished behind Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Victor Boniface, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy.
Even more surprisingly, the Super Eagles star was ranked 65th globally despite finishing 14th in the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

2. Victor Boniface (Nigeria and Bayer Leverkusen) – 51st in the world
3. Serhou Guirassy (Guinea and VfB Stuttgart/Borussia Dortmund) – 56th in the world
4. Ademola Lookman (Nigeria and Atalanta) – 65th in the world
5. Ayoub El Kaabi (Morocco and Olympiakos) – 76th in the world
6. Odilon Kossounou (Ivory Coast and Bayer Leverkusen/Atalanta) – 78th in the world
7. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon and Marseille/Al Qadsasiya) – 94th in the world
Meanwhile, the 2024 CAF Awards will be held later today (Monday, December 16) in Marrakech, Morocco.
