BREAKING NEWS: 19-year-old forest guard shoots IDP dead in Borno

A 19-year-old operative of the forest guard ranger in Borno State has shot dead an internally displaced person (IDP) at the Rann camp in Kala-Balge Local Government Area of the state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism expert reports that the incident occurred at about 10.30 pm on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

According to Makama, the victim, 25-year-old Abba Kime Jugudum was shot by the guard, identified as Mohammed Abbalayi with an AK-47 rifle.

He added that the guard was said to have allegedly fired a shot at the victim with his rifle.

Makama wrote on X, “Troops of Operation HADIN KAI deployed in the area immediately responded, secured the scene, and recovered the weapon an AK-47 rifle along with 25 rounds of live ammunition.”

He added that the body of Jugudum was immediately taken to the government-owned hospital in Rann where the victim was confirmed dead.

“The victim’s remains were evacuated to the General Hospital in Rann, where he was confirmed dead by a medical officer and later released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.

“Sources told Zagazola that the suspect was discreetly transferred to Maiduguri for further investigation by relevant authorities.

“Kala-Balge, located along the Nigeria–Cameroon border, hosts thousands of displaced persons affected by the Boko Haram insurgency,” Makama added on X.
