“Meet Your Lawmakers One-on-One” — Shehu Sani Sends Message to Nigerians After Election Bill Rejection
Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has advised Nigerians the next steps after the real-time electronic transmission of election results was rejected by the Senate.
Sani in a post on X urged the aggrieved Nigerians to extend their displeasure to lawmakers representing them and stop focusing on the leaders.
Recall that the red chamber on Wednesday, February 4 turned down a proposed change to Clause 60, Subsection 3, of the Electoral Amendment Bill that aimed to compel the electronic transmission of election results.
The development sparked mixed reactions as a cross-section of Nigerians slammed the lawmakers, especially the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, accusing them of attempting to rig the next general election for President Bola Tinubu.
Some politicians, however, welcomed the decision of the upper chamber, citing the possibility of network glitches.
He wrote, “The lawmakers have rejected the real-time electronic transmission of results.
“If you like what they did or you don’t like what they did, you should be courageous enough to go to the social media handle of the lawmaker representing your constituency and express your happiness or bitterness.
“Don’t focus on the President or Akpabio, who is just representing a district in Akwa Ibom. Be brave enough to mention your Senator by name on your handle. Everyone is an adult there. Thank you for your attention to this. matter”.
