Court grants singer Portable N1m bail after police arrest

Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus popularly known as Portable has been granted N1 million bail following his arrest by the Kwara State Police Command.

Portable was arrested by the police over a petition against him by Okunola Saheed also known as Osupa.

In his petition, Osupa accused Portable of various offences including criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and the use of abusive and insulting words.

However, speaking after the court session on Monday, April 14, Isaac Adebayo, a counsel to the singer said he has been granted bail.

Adebayo said, “I made an oral application and it was granted.”

Speaking on the court case, Adebayo added, “Saheer is saying that he (Portable) defamed his character, intimidating him and all sorts. We were at the Police station and the man begged him – Portable begged him, CP begged but he said no.”

He also said that while the bail conditions given by the court are stringent he is sure his client will meet them in due time.

“Though the condition is a bit stringent but we will meet up, he was asked to provide the Kwara state chairman of PMAN as surety; one other surety with a landed property in GRA and one million naira in like sum,” Adebayo said.
